FO Connectors and Accessories

We stock a wide range of fibre optic connectors, including clips for variousconnector types, as well as our field connectors, which can be fitted without a fusion splicer.

Fibre optic connectors allow you to create a detachable connection between different optical fibres or fibre optic cables. You can connect these either to one another or to other components.

FO Connectors – these types are available in our shop

You will need our high-quality fibre optic connectors, particularly for plug-to-plug connections with low signal attenuation. LC and SC connectors, for example, are the most commonly used in telecommunications and data technology.

We offer the following types of connectors:

  • LC-Stecker („Lampert connector“/“Lucent connector”), developed by Lucent Technologies. (Small form-factor connectors with a snap-lock mechanism)
  • SC-Stecker (“Subscriber connector” with a snap-on lock), developed by NTT in Japan. It has been the standard for LAN cabling since 2002
  • ST-Stecker („Straight tip“), also known as BOFC and developed by AT&T, connection via a bayonet lock
  • FC-Stecker („Fiber Connector“) originally developed by NTT with a screw cap, it replaced the SMA connector
  • E2000-Stecker (A connector developed by Diamond featuring a captive dust cap that also serves as a laser safety cap)
  • DIN (LSA) connector, similar to the FC connector, but with a much slimmer screw cap
  • MU-Stecker (Mini-SC „Miniature unit soupling“, developed by NTT)
  • MPO/MTP-Stecker („Multiple-Fibre Push-On“) A multifibre connector capable of connecting up to 80 fibres simultaneously, developed by a joint venture between US Conec (NTT, Fujikura and Corning)

The first five connectors listed are each available in PC (UPC) or APC versions.

  • APC-Stecker („angled physical contact”), generally green, bevelled
  • PC-Stecker (“physical contact”), convex-polished, the predecessor of the UPC connector. We generally supply only UPC, as these offer better performance.

Our extensive range of fibre optic connectors, including quick-connect connectors

We offer a variety of these practical quick-connect connectors. They are all quick to use and can be fitted without the need for splicing. Nevertheless, they provide a secure fibre optic connection with average insertion loss.

Fibre Optic Connectors / Fast Connectors – what they are

A fibre optic connector is any type of connector that connects the optical fibres to the corresponding socket via a plugging process. Various versions can be used, almost all of which are part of our product range.

A fast connector is a retrofittable fibre optic connector that can be fitted directly onto the fibre optic cable by (the customer’s own or contracted) technicians without the need for additional, expensive installation equipment. This enables quick and efficient installation.

Our fast connector variants:

  • fast connector LC/PC
  • fast connector LC/APC
  • fast connector SC/PC
  • fast connector SC/APC

All four fibre optic connector variants are suitable, for example, for installing FTTH/FTTX connections.

Our duplex clip fibre optic connectors (singlemode and multimode):

  • Duplex-Clip LC-/PC Singlemode, für LC-Stecker,
  • Duplex-Clip LC/APC Singlemode, für LC-Stecker
  • Duplex-Clip SC/PC Singlemode, für SC-Stecker (verschiedene Farben)
  • Duplex-Clip, SC/APC Singlemode, für SC-Stecker
  • Duplex-Clip LC/PC Multimode, für LC-Stecker (verschiedene Farben)

As well as a universal duplex LC connector, singlemode/multimode

The fibre optic connectors listed are available in a handy pack of 10.

We also offer:

  • Locking levers for R&M E2000 connectors, green
  • LC Keystone frames, white, 10 pieces
  • Matching adapters for all connectors
  • Dust caps

FO connectors – differences between the various types of fibre connectors

There are PC, UPC and APC connectors, which differ in terms of the polish of the ferrule. The ferrule is located inside the fibre-optic connector and forms the housing in which the fibre to be connected is situated.

The most common is the PC (Physical Contact) fibre connector, although its polishing style has since been further developed into the UPC polishing style.

The UPC or Ultra Physical Contact fibre connector has a better surface finish and return loss.

The APC (Angled Physical Contact) fibre connection is polished at an 8° angle and has minimised back reflection. With an optical return loss of around -60dB or higher, it is technically superior to the other connectors.

Frequently asked questions

Once fibre-optic cables are also used within the LAN, it is advisable to use specific fibre-optic connectors depending on requirements. If higher port densities are required, LC connectors are recommended, as these have now virtually become the standard. If a more robust design is required, SC connectors are the better choice. For the WAN, the fibre optic connectors should be selected according to the feed provided by the respective cable network operator; SC connectors are very commonly found here.

There is one important point to note when using APC fibre connectors: these connectors must only be used with other connectors that have an angled polish. Under no circumstances should you connect them to a connector that does not have an angled polish, as this will result in very high insertion loss and may cause damage.

A clip is designed to allow you to connect or assemble two Simplex LC connectors without the need for tools. No adhesive is required for attachment. It can be detached at any time. You can easily install the product without any specialist knowledge and use it for both single-mode and multi-mode applications.
