Our multiplexers are based on the Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technique, in which different light wavelengths are transmitted simultaneously over a single optical fibre. For medium distances, the CWDM (Coarse WDM) variant is usually employed, which provides up to 16 channels with wider wavelength spacing.
These devices operate passively, i.e. without a power supply or active electronics. The data is generated entirely in the end devices and is merely relayed via the multiplexer. This makes them fail-safe, maintenance-free and compatible with all common protocols and data rates – including 10 Gbit/s and above per channel.
Our models feature a modular design and are flexibly expandable. An integrated expansion port allows multiple modules to be cascaded, which is particularly advantageous for growing networks.

A multiplexer combines several data signals, transmitted at different light wavelengths (colours), into a single signal over a fibre-optic cable. No electricity or active electronics are used in the process – the technology operates purely optically. At the receiving end, a corresponding demultiplexer separates the light signals back into their original channels. This allows multiple connections to be established using just a single fibre-optic cable.
Installing a multiplexer is straightforward. The devices are usually housed in a 19-inch rack and connected to fibre-optic cables via LC or SC duplex connectors. It is important to ensure that the wavelengths are correctly assigned to the ports. Ensure that the connections are secure and clearly labelled, particularly when there are many channels. No active settings are required, as the end devices send and receive data directly.
