Fiber Optic Patch Cables

Fibre optic patch cables in all standard variants

Our range includes a wide variety of fibre optic cables for many types of cabling and connector types in various combinations and cable lengths. Fibre optic patch cables are particularly important for use in data cabinets and are therefore of particular interest to users in the IT sector. Here, they can forward signals via short connections.

Fibre optic patch cables in various designs

To ensure that you are equipped for all distances to be bridged in your installations, we offer the right fibre optic patch cables with singlemode and multimode fibres:

  • Singlemode fibre optic cables can be used for long distances of approx. 550 m or more. Common variants (depending on range) are fibre types OS1 and OS2, with the latter primarily covering the higher performance ranges.
  • Multimode fibre optic cables can only be used for short distances under 550 m. Here you have a choice of 5 fibre types: OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4 and OM5, whereby the specific range determines which variant you should choose. As a rule, multimode fibre optic patch cables are mainly used for in-house cabling.

Various connector combinations are available for both singlemode and multimode, which you can purchase as simplex or duplex versions (with one or two fibres). Naturally, we supply all fibre optic patch cables with a measurement report.

Patch cables – range and compatibility

If you plan to combine our singlemode and multimode fiber optic patch cables, please note that you cannot mix single-mode and multimode cables; they can only be combined via a network switch.

Singlemode fiber optics have a theoretically unlimited bandwidth, so performance depends on capacities of the transmitting and receiving devices and the quality of the cables used. When you use our fiber optic patch cables, you have made the best choice in terms of quality!

The range can be determined based on the transmission rate and the fiber type.

Singlemode example:

  • 100 Mbit/s – up to 10.000 m
  • 1 Gbit/s – up to 200.000 m
  • 10 Gbit/s – up to 100.000 m
  • 40 Gbit/s – up to 20.000 m
  • 100 Gbit/s – up to 40.000 m

Multimode patch cables achieve the greatest range at a rate of 100 Mbit/s. This is 2,000 m for OM1 to OM5.

Frequently asked questions

Strictly speaking, a patch cable is a network cable, as there is no specific definition for a patch cable. Patch cables are typically short in length and are not permanently installed.

They are rarely longer than 25 m, usually only up to 1 m long and pre-assembled. This makes them very easy to use straight away. However, professionals can always assemble them themselves and connect the plugs and cables themselves. In addition, patch cables are available as both fiber optic cables and copper cables. Copper cables with an RJ45 connector are particularly common in home networks.

A patch cable can be used to connect different ports, i.e., connections on a patch panel, to each other. Patch cables are therefore used, for example, to connect to a router or switch, as well as to connect various network devices such as smart TVs or PCs.
